Background:
Netherthorpe School is near Staveley, a few miles from Chesterfield, Derbyshire. It founded in 1572 and has provided education in the locality ever since. It is a comprehensive school for children of all abilities from 11-18 years of age. Extra-curricular activities and special events abound for students of all ages. Sporting facilities include three football pitches, cricket nets, one hockey pitch, seven tennis courts, five netball courts, one athletic track and a school gymnasium. At Christmas the Carol Service is held in Staveley Parish Church. There are regular visits out of school by groups both as part of the curriculum and as an introduction to leisure activities. A range of charities have been supported in recent years including Comic Relief, Operation Christian Child research into genetic disorders, the RSPCA and Ashgate Hospice. The school aims to provide for all students a caring, disciplined and stimulating environment in which learning challenges and enriches individuals and success is gained and recognised by student, school and community.
