Background:
New Mills Primary was originally built in 1900 and is housed in a three-storey building, with a two-storey junior unit with hall and kitchen which was added in 1988. The school is oversubscribed with 45 applications for 30 places. Outdoor facilities comprise a hard surface area with marked football pitch, netball courts and grassed surface. There is also a wildlife area with a 'well-stocked' pond which is used as an additional teaching resource. The school's computer provision has doubled in the past two years, a computer specialist has been appointed and pupils have access to the internet. Extra-curricular activities include handbells, recorders, chess, football, and residential visits for children in Years 5 and 6. The school aims to 'create a community where everyone is valued and encouraged to achieve their full potential within a secure environment'.
