Background:
Founded more than 120 years ago, this small over-subscribed village school is located on the Cheshire-Derbyshire border close to the small industrial town of New Mills. Despite its size, it offers a range of extra-curricular activities including school's council, football, cross-country, netball, gardening, recorder, choir and private music lessons. A paper recycling initiative and other fundraising events are organised by the Parent Teacher Friends Association. In 1998 it raised money to support developments in information, communication technology, literacy, educational visits and decoration of the building. Connections with the local community include links with local businesses, industry, churches and community facilities. The school also organised millennium events including an open day, a video, and a production at the local church hall.
