Background:

Hope Valley College enjoys an enviable site situated in the heart of the Hope Valley with the Peak District National Park. The college founded in 1958 as a community college. The college has recently been redesigned as a Specialist Technology College and has a second specialism for arts. Facilities of the college include new state-of-the-art technology equipment for its specialist subjects of science, mathematics, technology and ICT and this is used not only by students but also the adult community. Other areas of the curriculum are equally strong in particular the creative arts. This has resulted in the college being granted an additional specialism in this area. A broad range of sporting activities is offered, with students representing their county and, on occasion, their country. The college believes the award of both a Silver Artsmark and the Sportsmark is proof of the commitment to the wider curriculum beyond the original specialism. Building will soon commence on a £1.25m state-of-the-art music block. An active student council raises significant amounts of money and is also involved in staff appointments. There is an open, friendly relationship between staff and students, which supports and pervades the purposeful business of learning. It is a resource centre and centre for excellence in technology for the Hope Valley community. The college is over-subscribed. The college aims to promote respect for the views of each individual. This enables confident questioning and mature discussions in the classroom, resulting in high quality teaching and learning.
