Background:

Swanwick Primary School is a co-educational county primary school for children between the ages of four and 11. The school is located in the village of Swanwick, just outside Alfreton, but also serves the nearby village of Somercotes, Pentrich and the town of Ripley. The main building comprises seven teaching areas clustered around the main hall, which also serves as gymnasium and dining room and a fully equipped kitchen. The school has a well-stocked library and a recently established computer suite, which is networked with computers in all classrooms. The main building is set in its own grounds with two playgrounds and a substantial grassed area. The school offers a range of extra-curricular activities including choir, netball, soccer, sports club, technology club, recorders, reading club and science club. Instrumental tuition is also provided in violin, cello, keyboard, woodwind, brass and guitar. The Friends Association is a group of parents and teaching staff who meet monthly to organise numerous social and fundraising events. The school aims to provide a secure and happy environment where purposeful learning can take place and where every child is given the encouragement to reach his/her full potential.
