Background:

Founded in 1875, this small rural primary school is situated in the 'picturesque' village of Longford between Derby and Ashbourne. Its current accommodation comprises two junior classrooms in the original building and two infant classrooms in an adjoining, modern building, one of which was recently completed as a result of donations from parents and the local community. The school emphasises the basic skills in the curriculum and concentrates on 'developing each child's potential to the full'. French is taught as part of the curriculum. The school offers a wide range of extra-curricular activities and participates in sporting events locally and with other schools. Children are often successful in design competitions organised by local industry and a high proportion of them play musical instruments. The school also offers a before-school facility. It has strong community links with the local church and businesses and a partnership with the mobile library focused on raising literacy standards.
