Background:

The school dates from 1871 and occupies a 'very attractive' setting near the River Derwent at the foot of a slope leading to Curbar Edge. It serves the villages of Curbar, Calver and Froggatt. The accommodation consists of three buildings, with two classrooms in the main block, one classroom and an office in the terrapin and groups rooms, stockroom and staffroom in the schoolhouse. Extra-curricular musical instrument tuition, art and French are offered, and games include football, hockey, netball, rounders and cricket. The school'stages a large dramatic/musical production every 18 months, most recently the Wind in the Willows in December 2001, and pupils performed a Potted Millennium for the county drama festival in 2000. There are 'very strong' community links and the active parent-teachers association raises substantial funds. The 623 Club meets on school premises every evening providing childcare from 3pm to 6pm at a charge.
