Background:
Horsley Woodhouse Primary School was built in 1913. The school building is 'spacious' and 'full of character'. The 'extensive' grounds include playgrounds, a field and small woodland area. The current accommodation includes three classrooms, a library/resources room and a hall. In addition to the national curriculum, pupils are taught French and have the opportunity to learn a musical instrument, which will be taught by a peripatetic teacher. Sewing, country dancing, chess, netball, football, first aid and singing are offered to pupils as extra-curricular opportunities. Teams take part in local sporting competitions and have enjoyed an 'element of success'. Pupils are assessed and monitored for special educational needs (SEN) and individual programmes of study are devised for children 'at both ends of the learning spectrum'. The school aims to create a safe, stimulating and supportive environment where everyone is encouraged to fulfil their potential and achieve their best.
