Background:

Belmont is a primary school catering for boys and girls aged four to 11. The school is situated in a number of buildings on both sides of Belmont Street. The original building was opened in 1882 and contains four classes of Year 5 and Year 6 pupils along with the computer suite. The other classes are found directly across Belmont Street on the new site. The buildings on the new site are all modern, light and spacious. The reception and infant classes are found in The Acorn Building opened in November 2002. The Coleman Building, which houses the Year 3 classes and the main reception offices, was opened in April 2004. The school provides a number of extra-curricular clubs, which meet during lunchtime or after-school. These include choir, computer club, netball teams, football teams, athletics and rounder teams. Peripatetic music teachers come in weekly to give brass and woodwind lessons to Key Stage 2 children. The school also runs a French club for infant and junior children. The school aims to maintain a secure, caring and supportive environment to promote enjoyment of learning and equality of opportunity.
