Background:

Founded in 1875, Dronfield Junior School has since been extended and modernised. The school's work on environmental development has involved adding plants, trees, shrubs, seating and sun shades. Facilties inside the school include specialist rooms for art, music, technology and information and communications technology. There is provision for sports and children play football, basketball, netball, tennis, cricket and table tennis during and after school. In addition, first-aid, drama, choir, dance, orchestra, needlework and computers are available as extra-curricular clubs. Dronfield recently received National Lottery funding for an arts festival, which brought artists and students from Nottingham Trent University and from the Yorkshire Sculpture Park to work with the children on batik, pottery, sculpture, ceramics and prints. The fruits of their efforts now decorate the school, and these include a 70-foot mural. A kids' club is operated both before and after school.
