Background:
John Port School is one of the largest 11-18 comprehensive school in the country. The school is an all-ability school for students aged from eleven to nineteen years. It was opened in 1965 following the reorganisation of secondary education in Derby and occupies an attractive site in a semi-rural setting in the village of Etwall. The national curriculum has core subjects including English, mathematics, science and foundation subjects including technology, information technology, history, geography, MFL, art, music and physical education. The school aims to provide a caring environment in which students are able to make the most of their abilities to develop into mature and responsible citizens. The school has a wide range of sporting opportunities and extra-curricular activities are available for students. The school takes pride in offering students the opportunity for academic and personal success in a caring environment.
