Background:
Old Hall is situated to the west of Chesterfield and is housed in 100-year-old buildings. Most classrooms are 'small, with very limited space available for staff, children and resources' and the school building is 'in need of repair'. The school grounds are 'very pleasant' and consist of gardens, a field and a self-made wild life area. The school curriculum is 'supported by a variety of extra-curricular activity' which includes football, netball, drama, French, art, choir and cycling. Local visits to places of interest are 'common' and in Years 5 and 6 children have the opportunity to participate in residential visits. The school's Parents and Friends Association is 'very active' and organises fund raising events each year. The school believe that 'an underlying and fundamental aim is that all people connected with the school children and adults should feel positively involved and be happy there'.
