Background:
St Giles CofE (Aided) Primary School nestles beneath Riber Castle on the edge of Matlock itself, having the advantage of nearby facilities and opportunities whilst maintaining the best features of a village school. The school was built in 1991 and opened in May 1992 by Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, this modern building provides an attractive and stimulating environment. Facilities are modern and able to cater for disabled access throughout. There are four main teaching areas within the building, office, a modern well-equipped hall, a gymnasium and a library. Outside there is a large playing field and two hard play areas within landscaped grounds. The school offers a range of extra-curricular activities varying throughout the year and seasons. These include football, art, drama, music, kwik cricket, netball and tennis. The school has been awarded a Schools Extra Award for its out-of-hours provision. The school aims to encourage the best of Christian response to truth and life at its fullest and the opportunity for the children to explore and experience an understanding of the Christian faith for themselves.
