Background:
The school was founded in 1936 by Francisan sisters and at present is situated above the town on a site formally owned by the Strutt family. Outdoor facilities include 'extensive' playing fields, hard play areas and a wildlife garden. Accommodation comprises eight classrooms, an information and communication technology (ICT) room and a hall. One of the classrooms is a terrapin building which is located adjacent to the infants' playground. Football, rugby, netball, choir, instrumental tuition and information technology are all offered as extra-curricular activities and 'considerable success' has been gained recently in the speech and drama section of the Derby Arts Festival. The school has a 'thriving' parent teacher association and links have been developed with local branches of Safeways, McDonalds, Thorntons and Toyota. The main school can be accessed by wheelchairs and there are further ramps to all other areas of the accommodation. Two special educational needs (SEN) teaching assistants have access to a range of resources to provide support to SEN pupils.
